Street & Sanitation Department
The purpose of the Helena West Helena Street Department is to provide the best maintained infrastructure and to deliver quality service to the residents, businesses, and our visitors so that their expectations for essential services are met, thereby increasing the quality of life in our community.
The Street Department is charged with a wide range of responsibilities which include but are not limited to curbside hard trash collection (i.e.- limbs and shrubbery, bagged leaves, yard waste, etc.). These items are generally taken to the local landfill for disposal by one of our loader trucks. Excessive amounts placed curbside will be evaluated and billed accordingly on a case by case basis. Hazardous materials like paints, poisons, compressed gases, or petroleum based products are not accepted. This service is provided to citizens on a routine schedule that coincides with the Sanitation trash routes.
Other daily duties include Parks and Center green maintenance, lot clean ups, maintenance on storm drainage and ditches, street sign maintenance/ repair, roadway repair and maintenance which includes pothole repair, road shoulder and embankment mowing, removing roadway obstructions like fallen trees, mudslides, debris from disasters or wrecks, and paper details along designated roads.
The City of Helena West Helena Street Department has no collaborations with tree cutters, construction crews, demolition crews, or yard service technicians. These are commonly referred to as contractors. It is the responsibility of contractors to remove all debris from worksites and to not place their waste from worksites curbside. Violators will be reported to the office of Code Enforcement.
