Code Enforcement

Perhaps the most visible role of Code Enforcement Officers in the “Battle of the Blight”. How effectively Code Enforcement Officers perform their jobs can have a major impact on the property values and image of the community. Code Enforcement Officers support and enhance quality of life, while working to keep aging buildings, homes and properties from becoming “eyesores”. Every community faces struggles with vacant buildings, trash, tall grass and weeds, graffiti, and inoperable vehicles.

Safety is one of the primary ways that Code Enforcement Officers impact communities. Municipalities adopt ordinances, rules and regulations that take into consideration the safety and well-being of the public. Enforcement of these ordinances can be essential to the provision of safe and healthy living and working conditions for the members of the community. Code Enforcement Officers are also called upon to provide input based on their valuable experiences to help legislative bodies develop ordinances and codes.

Code Enforcement duties include:

  • Enforcement of ordinances and/or resolutions related to businesses operating within the city

  • Enforcement of ordinances and/or resolutions related to property maintenance within the city

  • Inspection of property to ensure state codes are met for construction, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical

  • Maintain good public relations through effective verbal and written communication with local citizens
